What do you think about using this contact e-mail list here to offer to contribute to the inventory of existing training documents ? or would you prefer we post a message on the google group or zulip? (I'm just afraid that not all installations follow these channels).

I don't mind if you reach out to people directly.

@Sonia Barbosa and others who have given training webinars recently (@Katie Mika @Julian Gautier @Ceilyn Boyd @Gustavo Durand and @Leo Andreev from a quick look at DataverseTV :tv:), this new "training resources" topic came out of today's Documentation working group meeting.

I volunteered to let you know that the meeting was recorded and training resources was the first topic. If you have the time, please check it out! There are notes as well.

In short, there's a lot of interest in inventorying existing resources (doc) and generally collaborating on training material in the future.

Thanks for the ping! I checked out the video and the notes doc. The folks at UNC have made videos about using Dataverse, too. I think they have a YouTube channel and I imagine they'll be pretty responsive if they're contacted.

@Ines Schmahl @Amélie Fiocca and everyone, I just added over 30 links to tutorial from DataverseTV to the doc. Enjoy! :tv:

@Amélie Fiocca, on that "Crowdsourced information about Dataverse installations" spreadsheet I added a note on the column header for the "check date" column that you added, so I and maybe others know what it's for. Phil guessed it's related to when you were looking for tutorials from each installation. Feel free to edit the note if I missed or misunderstood anything about how the column's being used

view this post on Zulip Amélie Fiocca (Jul 28 2025 at 14:29):

Hi @Julian Gautier , thank you for the note. You're right, it's definitely related to the date of my research for tutorials :)

I could have created a spreadsheet, but I don't think I have the rights to this folder

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 🚀 (Jul 28 2025 at 14:51):

Hmm, you're a contributor to the parent folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1iLUtHsRw4NYUQoKenpGF6oYb-s23plL6?usp=drive_link

You can't create any docs or spreadsheets in that folder?

Ah, that's strange, I'll try again later. I will also suggest a email template to send for the contribution of installations that the group can review.

view this post on Zulip Amélie Fiocca (Jul 30 2025 at 13:11):

Good question... I suppose we could open it (just this document) or ask to installation write us on this channel with the answer for each field but it will require more work to compile them. Do you agree with the proposed template for the email?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 🚀 (Jul 30 2025 at 13:15):

Can you please open it (the spreadsheet), for comment?

I commented on the email template with some thoughts.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 🚀 (Jul 30 2025 at 13:26):

We should probably decide how we want people to give us their links to training materials before we send it out.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 🚀 (Jul 30 2025 at 13:27):

For instance, we could make the spreadsheet publicly editable but that might be a bit chaotic.

Hi everyone,
To move forward with the topic of training resources, I propose creating a form for installations using the Grist tool.
This will allow me to easily create lists linked to repositories and facilitate the formatting of results.
We could discuss the repositories:

An interesting objective would be to have a web page that lists training courses with the ability to search by type, target audience, level, and also by language!
Here are some screenshots of my tests with the Grist tool.
Of course, I can share them publicly in read-only or edit mode. We can also migrate the results.

It's even open source, apparently: https://github.com/gristlabs/grist-core :eyes:

view this post on Zulip Amélie Fiocca (Mar 27 2026 at 16:24):

It's a really great tool.
It's part of a digital suite available to government employees in France. I've started using it to manage quite a few things, and it's really very practical. You can do very simple things quickly, but it's also possible to code formulas in Python to do very complex tasks.

The idea would be to offer the survey or one option to send a table with the same format for easy integration (in case of multiple resources). I haven't tried it yet, but maybe it's possible to allow users to fill in several resource fields within the same form.

Gristform

Then I could generate a QR code like this, for example?

I can just add the qr code in the design right now because you gave the link already, thanks! I'll see how can incorporate it.
The form looks really good to me (not too long ;) ). And I think the date format might be browser decided, because I'm getting dd/mm/yyyy

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 🚀 (Apr 28 2026 at 16:05):

yeah, I can generate a QR code with some color options. I'll also add it as a shorturl at the bottom to ensure everyone can access it if the QR isn't working for some.

@Amélie Fiocca @Dieuwertje Bloemen @Vaida Plankytė 🎨 @Dimitri Szabo actually, maybe I should back up a bit. Do we want a website for training resources? What do you think?

view this post on Zulip Amélie Fiocca (May 26 2026 at 08:05):

Hi ;) I think it's very good idea as a catalogue where it is possible to search by criteria.
I'm thinking of something very simple and legible (and accessible too). The search could lead to metadata pointing to the resource, or alternatively, a dedicated collection in the Harvard dataverse to expose resources that have not yet been deposited.
