Understanding @Henning Timm's last url I should run the command with asadmin create-jvm-options '-Ddataverse.pid.providers=perma1' and instead of perma1 change to datacite

Yeah, the JVM option sounds right. I would probably edit domain.xml directly. Can you post the relevant lines? The ones for PID providers?

Here are the DataCite settings that worked for me: #docs > domain.xml example for configuring DataCite PID provider
