Over at https://github.com/gdcc/dataversecommunity.global/pull/1 we're trying to figure out which working groups are active.
For active groups, we're linking to a website or whatever. Should we mark pyDataverse as active? If so, what should we link to? https://github.com/gdcc/pyDataverse ? https://dataverse.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/377090-python ? Something else, like a dedicated page or a Google doc?
For now, I would suggest using https://github.com/gdcc/pyDataverse since progress can be tracked in the repo through PRs and Issues. However, I am willing to set up a website :raised_hands:
Sounds fine but maybe the README should be updated.
I'm anticipating questions like "where is the WebEx link?" or "what time is the next meeting."
Sounds good :+1:
Are you fine with starting 10th of January 15.00 UTC (10 AM Boston, 4 PM Germany)?
Hmm, my daughter's class is taking a trip to Boston's Chinatown and I'm thinking about chaperoning on the 10th. (I haven't signed up yet.)
Alright, we can also move to 17th
The 17th is free for me.
We can also put the meeting on the community calendar. I just left a comment about this.
https://github.com/gdcc/dataversecommunity.global/pull/1#issuecomment-1853957564
Thanks, just saw your comment. I will set up the meeting series now and forward to you the meeting link for the calendar.
Actually, if you don't mind adding the meeting yourself, I can give you access. You'd just need to tell me which Google account to add.
Would you prefer bi-weekly or weekly?
I'm leaning toward bi-weekly.
Of course, my Google Account Mail is
jan.range@simtech.uni-stuttgart.de
I agree, let's go for bi-weekly
added!
Sounds good.
I have just added the event :raised_hands:
Hmm, I don't see it. The 17th?
My bad, I was logged into the wrong account. It should be visible now :-)
10am for me. Looks perfect!
Should we add a link? Maybe just to the pyDataverse repo for now?
What do you think?
Looks great!
Added :raised_hands:
Great. I think the last thing is to link to it from the meeting invite.
In the calendar events?
Yeah. So that if someone ends up on the calendar event they have a link to click to learn more.
Alright, just added a link and a heads-up on the upcoming website to all events.
Perfect. Thanks!
When and how should we advertise the first meeting?
I have planned to announce the first meeting on Monday via Google Groups, Zulip and Slack
Perfect. I was thinking early next week as well.
@Jan Range the meeting announcement looks great! https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/H9iXwhSjSjU/m/K99yQBKkBAAJ
Wednesday, January 17th, 3 PM UTC (10 AM ET / 4 PM CET)
Come one, come all!
Ah, also at #community > Kickoff Meeting: PyDataverse Working Group . Perfect.
I just noticed that https://py.gdcc.io shows there was a meeting last week on Nov 13th. But the third Wednesday is the 20th. Do we have a meeting then? Did I miss this month's meeting?
My bad, I did count four Wednesdays ahead, and this time, it was not the third. We can still meet next week :-)
Ah, I see you already fixed the website. Thanks!
Up to you. Last time you even suggested meeting more often! :grinning:
I am fine with it, there are a couple of points on the agenda already :-)
Should we advertise the meeting? Maybe on the Google Group?
https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/Jiajill5Y7s/m/7DmKlOE1CQAJ looks great! Thanks, @Jan Range!
:snake:
Bad news: I got sick overnight and am not feeling well today. I hoped it would improve until now, but it has not :sob:
Can we move the meeting to next week? I am happy to change it on the website and announce it in the Google group.
Absolutely!
I went ahead and changed the Google Calendar entry. I hope you feel better.
I just updated the agenda, the google doc. I think that's everything.
Thanks a lot @Philip Durbin π :heart_hands:
Um. I just found out IQSS is closed tomorrow (Wednesday): https://dataverse.zulipchat.com/#narrow/channel/375707-community/topic/holidays.20etc.2E/near/484602500
Thank you for letting me know. I also need to step in for a colleague at a seminar today, which conflicts with our meeting. If itβs okay with you, Iβll reschedule the meeting for next Wednesday.
Dec 4th works for me! Thanks!
@Jan Range we're still on, right? Want me to reply to https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/Jiajill5Y7s/m/xWmLxutwCQAJ ?
Yes :-) Just posted it
Nice! Thanks! That one was my fault. An extra day off! :beach_umbrella:
Well deserved :raised_hands:
Since we met approximately two weeks ago, there has not been any news or development. I'd propose we meet next year in January when there's more progress.
Sounds fine but heads up to @Charity Everett who was thinking about coming.
Alright, just updated the page and will add "CANCELED" to the Google Calendar entry
Thanks for the heads up!
@Jan Range while I was working on the community news I noticed that the December agenda/notes was set to "restricted". I hope you don't mind but I changed it to "anyone can comment". I don't think there are any state secrets in there!
Oh, also, I added the recording to the top.
Good catch! I didnt notice, thanks for checking
So are we meeting in about half an hour?
Yes :raised_hands:
Filled up the agenda :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Great! I might be a couple minutes late :bike: :bike: :bike:
Same as last time I just opened up last month's agenda to viewing and commenting.
Dang it, that worked so well with just copying previously :grinning: I have adjusted the latest docs
Cool, thanks. I get a warning when I try to send the community news, that's all.
I can't make it to the meeting on Feb 19. It's school vacation week. We're bringing the kids skiing. :skier:
I am fine with moving it a week or more
At the same time I'm free the week before or after.
The week after would work best for me
So the 26th. Sure!
Wait, did I forget to show up on the 26th? I don't think we ever moved the Google Calendar entry. :grimacing:
I'm working on the community news. I don't think we met in February. So nothing to report.
I think that's on me, we have talked about moving it a week due to you being out of office, but I have missed updating the Google Calendar
But most of the topics have already been discussed in the comments of issues.
Ok, well, for the next meetings, I added sekmiller and @Juan Pablo Tosca Villanueva as guests (per Stefano).
Niiiice! Looking forward :raised_hands:
@Jan Range is there a pyDataverse meeting tomorrow? I see it in the calendar but not https://py.gdcc.io
Pushed
Took the agenda of last meeting for tomorrow
@Jan Range does that mean there is a meeting tomorrow?
Yes, the meeting will take place tomorrow at this time
https://time.is/compare/1400_19_Mar_2025_in_UTC
I apologize for not providing updates promptly. I'm currently busy finishing my thesis, and it's quite hectic :frown:
No need to apologize! Focus where you need to- thank you for responding!
@Jan Range do you think you'll host a pyDataverse working group meeting the week after the community meeting? That would be June 18th (the third Wednesday). I'm asking because I thought I'd mention upcoming working group meetings in my "community updates" talk at DCM25. (I'm actually traveling on the 18th and the following week so I won't be able to make it.)
@Philip Durbin βοΈ I will host the meeting on the 18th
Btw. I wanted to ask if it's possible to reschedule tomorrow's meeting for next week. Unfortunately, there is a clash I cannot change.
Oh, well, the 3rd Wednesday is next week anyway.
Oh true! 30th of April was a Wednesday - Close call :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
@Jan Range hi! Is there a meeting tomorrow? https://py.gdcc.io hasn't been updated.
@Philip Durbin yes, meeting tomorrow :raised_hands: Updated the website
Looks great! Should we send out an invite?
Sounds good! Will drop a mail tomorrow :+1:
cool, cool
@Jan Range no rush but I have a question about the in-person meeting at UNC. It'll be hybrid, right? Also, can you please create an agenda/notes doc and update https://py.gdcc.io ?
I'd like to send out an email to the google group suggesting that people can start signing up to attend the in-person/hybrid working group meetings. For each group, I'd like a doc to link to where they can add their name.
@Philip Durbin yes, I think hybrid makes most sense. I'll update py.gdcc.io and formalize the agenda in the upcoming week. To whom shall I send the document?
You can just let me know when the website has been updated. I'll grab the link from there. Thanks!
Will ping you once done :raised_hands:
I opened up the notes from the last meeting: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iFH9GTFLLbTZHv3a9P36eWQ07uywhMn9IPsL3reANJA/edit?usp=sharing
Yes, I'm working on the community news again, which is when I notice this.
Okay, so the default is to make it accessible for everyone? I was under the impression, using the default link turns it accessible for the whole DV group. Sorry I am not working with Google Docs a lot
I don't see any state secrets in the parent folder so I flipped it from "restricted" to "anyone can comment". That should fix it for next time.
Thanks!
What do you use instead of Google docs? I have so much stuff in there. :grimacing:
We use Attlassian Confluence at our institution and I personally use Notion a lot
Ah, I recommended Notion to my wife and she's been checking it out. I've heard good things.
Confluence. Meh.
Meh is a good description
Atlassian is killing Trello. I'm switching to Google Tasks for some things. ![]()
What did they do to Trello?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification
I just asked people to add themselves under "attendees (tentative)" for next week's hybrid meeting at UNC: https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/ZEEBtC9Ylx8/m/f606rf-rAQAJ
Great, thanks a lot!
Did last week's meeting happen? If so, was it recorded?
Yes, it happened - Recording is up now at https://py.gdcc.io
Downloading! Thanks!
Nice meeting. A lot about using GitHub Copilot for PR reviews. @Juan Pablo Tosca Villanueva what was the conclusion? You got it working for pyDataverse or not?
Yes! We had to make me an admin tho lol. The feedback that provided I think was useful but very little, things that basically can cause a memory leak or things like that but it would not take into consideration the business logic if that makes sense.
Cool, glad you got it working.
Also, I agree that the refactoring should be done first, before trying to merge EasyDatavere into pyDataverse, for example. I think we have a topic on this: #python > PyDataverse Re-Vamp (unless it was for a previous re-vamp  )
I think the original re-vamp topic was about turning pyDataverse functional again, but I think it is also suited for the refactor.
well, we can kick off a new topic if it helps!
I think re-vamping the re-vamp is fine :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
ha, ok
@Jan Range meeting tomorrow?
@Philip Durbin π I am curently in thesis writing "holiday" and I have not yet had the chance to progress any further with the refactoring and docs. Do you have anything to discuss?
not really, nothing urgent
Alright, shall we meet in a month again? Until then I will have finished my thesis and made progress on the open tasks.
Sure, sounds fine to me.
Maybe you could add "CANCELED" to the meeting on Google Calendar.
Yes, will add and move the date on py.gdcc
Updated :-)
Great! Good luck on the thesis!
Thanks @Philip Durbin π
@Jan Range I usually ask this earlier, but... do we have a meeting in a little over two hours? I assume so, since there's something on the agenda.
Yes, the meeting is happening
Great! See you then!
See you later!
@Slava Tykhonov I just noticed that SHACL is on the agenda
SHACL is pyDataverse?
Jan it talking about turtle :turtle:
Dear all, the pyDataverse WG meeting had to be moved to next week 2025-09-24 due to clashes on my side.
No worries. I just moved the Google Calendar event.
I see lots of GitHub activity, so I assume we're on.
Hehe yes we are on
Maybe a short one to discuss all the fixes, but it is good to have all the issues out of the way now
sure, sounds good
@Jan Range do we have a meeting tomorrow? If so, should we advertise it on the google group?
@Philip Durbin π yes we are meeting tomorrow
I can send a notification to the Google Group. The refactoring is done and I am writing tests now. Guess, this would be interesting for all pyDataverse users
Great! Or I can. Lemme know!
@Jan Range https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/OreEyIfLUAk/m/35sXFbQyBQAJ looks great! Thanks!
