I wonder why westLongitude, eastLongitude, etc. are of type TEXT and not FLOAT? Is there any specific reason for this? And what would happen if I changed it to FLOAT while there are already metadata stored that has been saved using the TEXT type (but compatible in format with FLOATs)?
You're right. They should be float. On a related note, this recently merged PR checks for float values:

You're very welcome to play around with changing them to float. We should clean this up some day.
