Hi Phil and Jan,
I hope you had a nice rest after the Dataverse Community Meeting. I have now seen the whole presentation and you did an amazing job! I am honored to be mentioned a few times during the presentation :-)) Next on our agenda is a write-up paper, and as I am brainstorming about it, I have a few questions:
@Philip Durbin Do you know if any other repositories implement the geo-search as Dataverse does? I know Jim previously worked on it also, but what were the origins of the idea?
@Jan Range Do any other repositories use the web previewer? Where was it developed?
If you have other inputs on related work and repositories that support geospatial/high-dimensional features please let me know :)
While people have talked about geospatial search in the Dataverse community for ages, in the 2022 community meeting Jim Myers asked if he should pursue the idea in earnest. See "Experimenting with geospatial indexing" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EACJJaV3O1c&t=4032s and slides at https://osf.io/84pnw
Going back a bit farther, in August 2021 a geospatial working group met and wrote up some thoughts, including geospatial search: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aQCIM6wbAdgMNLTVSUhvuHQKzWDAvQ5XoYGbfint3P4/edit?usp=sharing
I just started #geospatial > origins of geospatial search
I'm not sure if anyone is using geospatial search. It's only an API right now.
Thanks Phil!! All very useful!
I suggest we change the topic name to something like: related work and references so I can post all of my questions here :)
@Ana Trisovic Afaik H5Web is also used as a VSCode plugin. Will look for other related applications :-)
Philip Durbin has marked this topic as resolved.
