Btw just realized how smooth the change from Matrix to Zulip was :star_struck:

@Jan Range well, I wouldn't say we've changed over completely yet but certainly @Oliver Bertuch , you and I seem to be enjoying Zulip!

What do you like or not like about Zulip, especially compared to Matrix?

Topics do help keep things more organized!

After using this for quite some time now I can say: topics work better for me than Matrix threads. They are messy, require extra steps to look into, etc. I do like the spontaneousness of Matrix with its linear history though.

I just left a comment and a pic at https://github.com/IQSS/chat.dataverse.org/issues/22#issuecomment-2365314124 about how we've seen steady growth on Zulip since we updated https://chat.dataverse.org to point to Zulip instead of Matrix. I also closed that issue, which was about the transition. We're done! Long live Zulip! :zulip:

Wow, I was just looking at a message in Matrix and learned that my browser, Firefox, isn't even supported:

It's weird because I'm on the latest Firefox and https://github.com/element-hq/element-web#supported-environments says "Last 2 major versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Edge on desktop OSes".

Anyway, I'm so glad we switched.

And the whole login and device verification process reminds me that Matrix/Element is a bit of a usability nightmare, in my humble opinion.

Zulip is by no means perfect but it's much more normal and understandable by mere mortals.
