If you're interested in joining, let us know!

Hi Oliver, I'm interested (as always).

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 馃殌 (Feb 26 2026 at 12:29):

Absolutely! :whale:

view this post on Zulip Philipp Conzett (Mar 03 2026 at 05:30):

Hi Container Guys! From UiT/DataverseNO, there will be at least 3 participants at the K8s Workshop the day before DCM26. I'll send you the names by email.

view this post on Zulip Don Sizemore (Mar 04 2026 at 12:59):

dumb, dumb question: this is a "satellite meeting" on 12 may, not a pre-pre-workshop on 11 may?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 馃殌 (Mar 04 2026 at 12:59):

Yeah, I'm pretty sure.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 馃殌 (Mar 04 2026 at 12:59):

I haven't heard of anything on Monday, May 11th. It'll probably be a travel day (or recover from jetlag day).

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (Mar 04 2026 at 13:09):

Looking at #community > #Dataverse2026 @ 馃挰 I'd say it's May 12th.

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (Mar 04 2026 at 13:09):

At least I'm not going to arrive earlier than the evening of May 11th, so it better be May 12th or we'd need an all night session.

view this post on Zulip Mahendra Paipuri (Mar 05 2026 at 13:21):

@Oliver Bertuch Do you think it would be possible to join online?

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (Mar 05 2026 at 15:26):

I don't know what options the organizers will provide. As there is no remote participation option for the conference, I lean towards a No. Also, looking at the experience from last year, doing this as a hybrid event may be an unsatisfying experience for remotees.

view this post on Zulip Julian Gautier (Mar 05 2026 at 15:56):

Hey all. I really think it will be possible for folks to join all of the May 12 working group meetings online. I think that's why they're being called satellite meetings.

Like you wrote Oliver, I'm less sure how that'll work

view this post on Zulip Mahendra Paipuri (Mar 06 2026 at 12:26):

Cheers @Oliver Bertuch and @Julian Gautier for your responses. I am not quite sure what exactly is planned for the workshop! I am rather more interested in following the discussions to understand the inner workings of Dataverse and the challenges it poses in k8s environment rather than any concerte hands-on sessions! I will follow the event page and if it is indeed possible to join online, I would be very happy to do so!!

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 馃殌 (Mar 06 2026 at 12:53):

@Mahendra Paipuri meanwhile, you're welcome to join the monthly Containerization working group meeting. Please see https://ct.gdcc.io and #containers > meetings.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 馃殌 (Mar 06 2026 at 12:54):

You're also welcome to ask Kubernetes questions in #containers, either in a new topic or an existing one (such as #containers > k8s status).

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 馃殌 (Mar 06 2026 at 13:09):

@Mahendra Paipuri wait, you joined last time and started the #containers > k8s helm chart topic, right? Sorry, I forgot! Should we talk more in the helm chart topic?

view this post on Zulip Mahendra Paipuri (Mar 06 2026 at 13:12):

Hello @Philip Durbin 馃殌 Yes, I joined the Feb's meeting!! I posted here as this workshop is interesting to me. But I cannot go to the conference so I asked if it is possible to join online!!

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin 馃殌 (Mar 06 2026 at 13:17):

Well, to be honest, I'm a little confused. @Oliver Bertuch the k8s workshop is different than the in-person Containerization working group meeting we're planning to have, right? The latter should be hybrid (see #containers > Containerization wg at DCM 2026 in Barcelona @ 馃挰 ), but I'm not sure about the k8s workshop.

Dear all, I've setup a small form to make sure everybody knows the deal and can prepare. Also, without registering, BSC will not let you in. Thanks!

(@Philip Durbin 馃殌 the days of Dataverse being a small conference are over, I suppose... For better or worth...)

I'll join the K8s Workshop, at least as logistics member :D

As you work for BSC, I suspect I don't need to tell Maria about you?

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (Apr 30 2026 at 16:01):

Folks the final list has been sent. You need to take it up with the organizers if you still want to join... Security is tight at BSC!

Regarding the workshop:

:alert: Last call for signing up! :alert:
As the organizers extended the deadline for all the satellite meetings to submit their list of attendees, I opened the signup form for the workshop again until Thursday, 2026-05-07, EoB AoE. If you didn't have a chance so far and think about participating, here's your chance:

Crap, form closed. My apologies for my sloth heritage. Any way you can briefly open it?

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (May 08 2026 at 08:44):

Just because you asked nicely - and I already put down your name so BSC security doesn't send you away

Submitted.

Guessing the supercomputing centre has decent bandwidth - worst case, I'll rsync some stuff off to a VM. You shall have your pound of storage.

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (May 08 2026 at 08:51):

We'll see about how much the WiFi AP can give us of that bandwidth...

view this post on Zulip Thomas van Erven (May 08 2026 at 08:51):

If not, surely there's a cable one can 'acquire' temporarily.

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (May 08 2026 at 08:53):

I wouldn't bet on that. Their security is tight. Something like that wouldn't even be easy here, where security is not as tight.

view this post on Zulip Thomas van Erven (May 08 2026 at 08:54):

Good to know, then I shall come prepared (meaning synced in advance).

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (May 08 2026 at 08:54):

You might be fine with less than 256G. I just wanted to make sure we don't run into any such nasty problems which are really hard to fix onsite. (CPU, RAM, diskspace)

view this post on Zulip Thomas van Erven (May 08 2026 at 09:16):

Sensible. Worst case, I'll pop over to my cluster for doing stuff. It will have such resources.

view this post on Zulip Max Kadel (May 08 2026 at 10:53):

Oh my goodness, I didn't realize there was a separate sign-up for the workshop and I see I'm two hours too late! Any chance I can sneak in? I feel so silly.

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (May 08 2026 at 11:31):

I don't know. @Max Kadel I'll ask the BSC organizers if they can still manage to add you to the list they send (sent?) to security.

view this post on Zulip Max Kadel (May 08 2026 at 11:46):

Thanks @Oliver Bertuch - sorry I didn't realize earlier.

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (May 08 2026 at 11:51):

Are you registered for any of the other activities that day? That might improve chances they'll agree, as security will already have seen you on their list... :see_no_evil:

view this post on Zulip Max Kadel (May 08 2026 at 12:53):

@Oliver Bertuch - no, I'm registered for the overall conference, starting on Wednesday, but missed that the Tuesday activities needed separate registration.

view this post on Zulip Oliver Bertuch (May 08 2026 at 13:03):

Welp, we'll see what they say. :shrugdog: I haven't heard back yet :grimacing:
