Hi there, I see here that Trusted Remote Store with remote store type support is experimental. Does anyone use this in production? Any idea on how it viable it would be for a production deployment?
I'm pretty sure people use it.
I'm asking if we use it at Harvard Dataverse. I'm not sure.
We don't. @Jay Sundu I would suggest asking at https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community
I think Arizona State uses it? OR at least has asked about it @Deirdre Kirmis ?
UVa was going to use it, but we had a big discussion (not on how technically to do it), but what remote storage options would we trust? And....we would need to trust it to always be there and..... to always have the same data and files as originally described.
We had a problem with trust :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
We got it set up and working in QA but don't have it running in production .. we were considering using it for one of our projects that just contains metadata records to point to the actual data, but we aren't yet .. just linking to a page to request access. May be something we do in the future but we haven't yet. Those issues of trust are real and we have discussed as well.
UCLA is working on using it.
Thanks. The issue of trust makes sense for sure! In our case we would be trusting ourselves. We are trying to deal with large files but don't have object storage which I think is the preferred approach. I think we could do the trusted remote store option and perhaps work toward object storage. Great to hear Jamie! I might set it up and see if I can break it :)
@Philip Durbin I just posted the question on google groups too. Thanks again everyone. I'll keep you posted.

Akio's Trusted Remote Storage Agent isn't dead but grant funding ran out: https://github.com/uncch-rdmc/trsa-web
I believe it still requires a fork of Dataverse due to its changes in ingest functionality. Would love to fire that work back up.
