On Wednesday, May 6th, the good people who runย https://dv.dataverse.lvย will be giving a talk about their first year of serving their research community in Latvia. Gustavo and I will be there in Riga, in person, to present as well.
If you'd like to join, you can register for the event here:ย https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/f11272b8-af13-4f3e-9ff1-f6bae3e19a17@695e0a27-5814-44f5-a5bd-d4dc3e8c3a47
Here's the description from the link above:
"DataverseLV โ Celebrating the First Year in the Dataverse community
Join us for a special event celebrating the first year of the DataverseLV research data repository and its growing role within the international Dataverse community.
This event offers a unique opportunity to look back on the achievements of DataverseLV during its first year, explore its impact on research data management in Latvia, and learn about future developments. Kristaps Oลกkalns and Daina Kosฤซte (VPC) will share insights into the repositoryโs journey, milestones, and vision ahead.
We are also delighted to welcome representatives from The Dataverse Project at Harvard University. Sonia Barbosa, Gustavo Durand and Philip Durbin will introduce the Dataverse software and provide a closer look at the vibrant global community that supports and advances open research data sharing.
Whether you are a researcher, data steward, librarian, or simply interested in research data infrastructure, this event is an excellent chance to connect, learn, and become part of the wider Dataverse network.

In German we'd call that "trinkfest" :stuck_out_tongue: (And yes, there is a difference between "Trinkfest" and "trinkfest". In this case I meant the adjective, but it certainly is festive, too  )

Visited the stock market, I see
Ha, more or less. They said it was Ukrainian. I'll have to ask @Slava Tykhonov about that.
If it's cherry liquor (Drunken Cherry), can confirm as well. Going by the glass shape, seems like it might be.
https://pianavyshnia.com/en/#shops (They do specifically list Riga)
Of course it's Ukrainian!
Yes, that's the one!
They pour the glass to the brim and you're supposed to drink some out of it before you pick it up.
The tables are sticky. So is the floor.
I plan to do a proper blog post on my Harvard blog soon where I thank our gracious hosts, but for now, here are some pics of food and such on my personal blog! https://thedurbins.com/phil/blog/2026/05/19/my-trip-to-latvia.html
