Hi there. Is there an accessibility review for Dataverse? Have other institutions done one that can be made available? Thanks in advance!

I could be wrong but https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/ePyJ9n6YA4k/m/7QQpBf24AgAJ might have the latest information.

Also, we're re-writing the frontend of Dataverse in React with accessibility in mind.

@Jay Sundu would an badge in the README about accessibility help? Please see https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-frontend/issues/26#issuecomment-1906651526 and https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-frontend/issues/289

I think making accessibility a primary importance is a good thing and the badge does seem to do that so I'd say that it helps. Thanks @Philip Durbin

At UC-Berkeley, we are oblidged to follow a consent decree we have with the US Department of Justice (see here)

@Jay Sundu check it out, we're adding a new accessibility badge in https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-frontend/pull/346

And when you click, it goes to https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-frontend/actions/workflows/accessibility.yml where you can see the tests that ran.

@Philip Durbin Hi there, I think the roadmap suggests first quarter FY2025 as when you'd have the React rewrite scheduled for release -- the rewrite with 'accessibility in mind' that you referred to previously. Is there a timeline for this release that I can provide others?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin ๐Ÿš€ (Jul 22 2024 at 15:51):

@Ceilyn Boyd can you provide any insight here?

@Jay Sundu for my part I'll just say that the React rewrite is a huge project.

view this post on Zulip Ceilyn Boyd (Jul 22 2024 at 17:48):

Hi @Jay Sundu development of the React frontend is currently underway and we are making steady progress.

As Phil said, this is a very large project that spans multiple quarters and years. You can track general progress here, if you'd like: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-pm/issues/123. Status updates are provided each month. Of course you can also subscribe to the frontend repos, too.

The features the team is working on currently can be viewed here: SPA Beta Features for Q3 2024. You can try out the beta here: https://beta.dataverse.org/spa. This demo is updated as new features are implemented.

Also, you can join the Frontend Development Working Group. The next meeting is happening on 7/23/2024 at 9:00am EDT if you have specific development related questions.

Thank you so much @Philip Durbin and @Ceilyn Boyd . We greatly appreciate all the efforts you all are making to get this big lift to happen! Many thanks -- I'll pass the info along.

Hi!
We are currently doing one, it's for the French regulation so they haven't translated the tool (yet... hopefully) and our comments are in French, but maybe the results can still be useful to you. Here's the link : https://ara.numerique.gouv.fr/rapport/tI81By30ew13oluECKS3k/resultats

Thank you very much @Dimitri Szabo . This is useful. I will share your results with my colleagues.

If UVA had specific questions about the React Frontend development and accessibility, who would be the best person to contact?

@Ceilyn Boyd ?

I've given them all the links @Philip Durbin and @Ceilyn Boyd posted in this thread and am hoping that's what they want, but in case they want more? Who best to directly contact?
Thanks.
@Sherry Lake

@Ellen K @Guillermo Portas what do you think?

view this post on Zulip Sherry Lake (Aug 14 2024 at 13:23):

Thanks!! Our accessibility team is satisfied with the information in the front-end Github.

UVa is good for now.

Have there been any changes or updates to UI accessibility with 6.5?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin ๐Ÿš€ (Mar 06 2025 at 19:44):

I don't believe so. I just checked https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/releases/tag/v6.5 and I don't see any mention of it.
