Hi those who collaborate with some issues can assist too? If don't have anything in my calendar for those days I would like going there, for spending the nights I won't have much problem as I have family in Terrassa

Thanks for the announcement, @Felipe Gómez-Cortés! Do you already know the address of the venue where the meeting will be?
Hi @Philipp Conzett!
We have not an address yet.
Hi everyone,
We’re happy to share that the Dataverse Community Meeting 2026 will be held in Barcelona, 26–29 May 2026, hosted by BSC-CNS and Harvard University. :tada:
We’re now looking for sponsors and partners interested in supporting this key event for the global Dataverse and open science communities.
If your organisation might be interested, please reach out to us at dcm2026@bsc.es. We’ll be sharing a detailed sponsorship proposal soon.
:raised_hands: Thanks for spreading the word!

Hello, long time no see friends. We have a quick question regarding custom metadata blocks. These can be enabled for datasets, can they also be enabled for collections (sub dataverse metadata)? Our use case is we want to mark which collections/sub dataverses can have their metadata exported and shown as collections in other online repositories. Thank you, Asbjørn

Oh! I didn't even notice! Apparently, yes!
oh no, if the event has been moved by two weeks to earlier, i might not be able to attend anymore  is there any way to sign up for important announcements already, or is this thread the best place? i tend to book travel quite in advance, so would be good to keep up with any changes :sunglasses:
is 12-15 May the confirmed final dates?
Hi there!
Yes, there was a change.
12-15 May is the confirmed date.
Dear Dataverse Community,
We’re excited to share some updates about the Dataverse Community Meeting 2026 (DCM2026)!
The event will now take place on 12–15 May 2026 at the Barcelona World Trade Center, right by the sea in the heart of Barcelona.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Best regards,

The call for papers is open! https://dcm2026.com/call-for-papers/
I announced it in the Jupyter Zulip.
awesome! it'd be great to have an idea when the call for submissions closes!
When you click through it says, "The deadline for abstract submission is 29 January 2026, at 23:59 CET."
ah, thank you! didn't think to click through :joy:
There's a list of key dates at https://dcm2026.com/general-information/
Hi Dataverse Community!,

Heya @Felipe Gómez-Cortés. Just a heads up that I reposted this call to the Code 4 Lib mailing list.
Great!
Thanks @Julian Gautier !!
@Felipe Gómez-Cortés will working groups have a chance to meet?
@Sonia Barbosa is on the organizing committee and said she'd report back on in-person meetings for working groups.
Hi @Philip Durbin 🚀
To keep things consistent with the 2025 format at UNC, we have indeed reserved Tuesday, May 12th specifically for Satellite Meetings.
We’re excited to host these at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) installations! The main conference will then take place at the World Trade Center (WTC) from May 13th–15th.
You can see the location details here: https://dcm2026.com/general-information/. We’ll be sharing more specifics soon on how groups can coordinate their space at the BSC!
And speaking about the schedule...
:siren: ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT TO SUBMIT! :siren:
If you want to present a talk or poster during the main sessions at the World Trade Center, the deadline is fast approaching:
Deadline: 29 January 2026, 23:59 CET
Theme: AI, Interoperability, and Sensitive Data
Submit here: https://dcm2026.com/call-for-papers/
@Felipe Gómez-Cortés so I talked to the three working groups I'm part of (Documentation, pyDataverse, and Containerization) and we'd each love to take you up on your offer of having a 1-hour working group meeting on Tuesday, May 12th at BSC. Since some of us (like me) are part of multiple working groups, it would be ideal if the groups don't meet at the same time.
@Felipe Gómez-Cortés @Sonia Barbosa is there a reason why I can't submit my last two proposals and only save them as drafts?
image.png
@Oliver Bertuch I suppose it is for this reason:
Drat! I didn't see that!
Thanks @Juan !
In filling out proposals.... is Affiliation meant to be the university I work for, and then Organization for the department I work in? Or do I have that reversed? Thanks!
I don't know who can update it, but I just noticed DCM26 isn't on the events overview page of the dataverse.org website: https://dataverse.org/events
Hi everyone!
We’ve heard from several community members who need just a bit more time to polish their proposals. To make sure everyone has a chance to share their work, we are extending the deadline!

Hi Community!
We have some exciting updates:
Talks Update: The call for talks was a massive success! We received over 100 abstracts—thank you for such an incredible response. :confetti:
Posters (Deadline Feb 16!): You still have time to join the program! We want to see your Dataverses, Collections, and real-world success stories. Don't miss this chance to showcase your work. :point_right: Submit here: https://dcm2026.com/call-for-papers/
Registration: Early Bird rates are available until February 28. Secure your spot at the best price! :point_right: Register here: https://dcm2026.com/registration/

@Felipe Gómez-Cortés will it be possible for my company to pay the registration fee via bank transfer?
Hi @Balázs Pataki !!
Yes, no problem!
If you would like to pay by bank transfer, please contact us at: dcm2026@bcocongresos.com.
Hi @Felipe Gómez-Cortés After a working group leader has submitted their registration for the conference and included a list of people who will attend their working group's meeting on May 12, will other people who aren't on that list but who have registered for the conference be able to attend that working group meeting?
Let me ask María Ferrer and I will come back to you @Julian Gautier
@Julian Gautier Here's the answer:
According to BSC rules, the main contact must provide the full names and email addresses of all attendees by April 30th. Only guests on the official meeting guest list will be admitted.
Therefore, it's best to have the guest list with a few extra names to process your access cards, rather than trying to process your access at the last minute.
Ah that's clear. Thanks! I'll let the working group leads know.
Hmm, it sounds like working group leads should start gathering a list of attendees pretty soon, if the list must be submitted at registration, which is already open.
@Felipe Gómez-Cortés thanks for the info!
Oh, I imagined that if leads wanted to add more names before April 30 but after they already registered, they could just email you Felipe or a colleague. Right?
Yes @Julian Gautier, we can append new attendees to the list in new mails before April 30th.
Hi @Felipe Gómez-Cortés Would you happen to know already at what time the programme will end on Friday? (We are looking at the flight schedules, and wonder if we would miss a lot taking an earlier flight back.)
Hi @Laura Huis in 't Veld, we don't have Friday's schedule yet. We will share the program once it is defined.
Hi everyone!
Two big reasons to head over to the Registration Page this week:
Early Bird Ending: You have until February 28th to secure the reduced rate. Don't leave it for the last minute!
May 12th is Filling Up: Our Satellite Meetings (at the BSC) are taking shape! We have already confirmed sessions for:
Workshops: Kubernetes (K8s) and others.
Working Groups: Containerization, PyDataverse, and Documentation.
GDCC Meetings: The Steering Committee Meeting.
Program Reveal: We are putting the final touches on the schedule and expect to release the official program later this week! :calendar:
Want to host your own? The registration form is the primary mechanism to propose a new satellite meeting or joint brainstorm session. If you want to gather a group on May 12th, let us know through the form so we can coordinate the space!
See you in Barcelona! :rocket:
Hola @Felipe Gómez-Cortés! I am planning on registering soon, but wanted to know if the registration will include any meals? I need to include this information in my institutional travel request. Thanks!

@Oliver Bertuch Thanks for the heads-up! We have people at DataverseNO who are interested. Please allows us a couple of days to figure out how many we'll be. Thanks!

I was able to get my registration in by the deadline and look forward to seeing everyone there!
Now to getting all my travel setup :airplane_arrival:
Any one have recommendations on which hotels to stay at? Recommended areas?
Yay! Glad you're coming! I haven't clicked it yet, but there's a "book your accommodations" link at https://dcm2026.com/accommodation/
After a very very very extensive search for the best room at an affordable price (OMG so many options!!!), I finally can say: I will stay in a nice AirBnB quite close to the venue. There are some others available at the same place, maybe go grab that now

There are so many options, but glad you found something! I think even just knowing what area would be good to stay at might be helpful.
I had a PM exchange a while ago and got these recommendations:
I would suggest to be in a less touristic area, like Sants which is a less expensive area. It is very easy to reach the venue by metro L3 (green line).
https://maps.app.goo.gl/cnrEpvj1Bw8ZSvm96Or even better, something a the neighbourhood Gracia.
The L3 metro station is Fontana, Lesseps or Diagonal
https://maps.app.goo.gl/jssXBcbP2MEnNnWc9
As I will be staying for a few days after the conference, I decided to go with something much closer to the venue. I can take the V11 bus at the front door of the venue or just walk. My Air BnB is within this area: https://maps.app.goo.gl/5gfqomGXAtx1nnEb6
So sight seeing after the conference is all doable in walking distances and I don't loose a lot of time commuting in and out of the city centre.
I've also noticed that everyone and their cat is sharing the smallest broom closet as a room... It was hard to pick something that at least has a window to get some air!
@Oliver Bertuch thank you for sharing this. beware I will only call the V11 the "Beyoncé Bus".
@Felipe Gómez-Cortés when registering, there is no prefix country code for the United States (or I can't find it!):
![]()
It's ok, though. I'll just put +1 before my number, I guess.
Hi Community!
Following up on our planning for the satellite sessions:
So far, we have officially registered the Documentation WG meeting. We now need the organizers for Containerization and pyDataverse to send over their proposals and, crucially, the list of in-person attendees. The Sensitive Data and Large Data groups are also very welcome to submit their proposals as soon as possible.
Regarding the logistics at the BSC:
Hybrid Setup: All meeting rooms at the BSC are equipped for hybrid sessions, so hosting remote participants is no problem.
Organizer Responsibility: It is the responsibility of each WG lead to bring their own laptop and any necessary adapters (screens generally use HDMI). You will also need to create and manage your own Zoom/meeting links for the virtual portion.
Security & Attendance: Important: We specifically need a separate, accurate list of in-person attendees for security and access control at the BSC. Please ensure this list does not include those attending only online.
Looking forward to getting these finalized!
@Felipe Gómez-Cortés I have a proposal for the Large Data Support working group and am in the process of gathering a list of attendees. When I have that, should I send that info to you, or update my registration for the satellite meeting?
@Felipe Gómez-Cortés I just registered and included a satellite meeting for the Containerization Working Group.

Hi @Deirdre Kirmis , you can submit the proposal with an initial list of attendees and update this list by the end of April. It is great that the Large Data Support WG will meet :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Great @Philip Durbin 🚀 ! Thanks for the thread. I am going to update the logistic team about these two satellite meetings.
Apologies if I missed this, but I would like to attend a pre-conference session or two, but I don't know what they are or how to sign up for them. If it's available, could someone share a schedule?
I was just reading above and perhaps it's all still being planned. Will there be a general call for participation once all set? I just don't want to miss out. :)
@Bethany Seeger for working groups, at least, I would suggest reaching out in these places to say that you'd like to attend:
Each group is responsible for giving an updated attendee list before the conference, by April 30th, I believe.
As for other satellite meetings, I don't believe there's a way to sign up yet. I assume it's coming.

Anyone willing to bet if there will be enough kerosine available so we all can travel to Barcelona by mid May? Don't wanna jinx it, but a slight furrowed brow appears... Let's root for ourselves we can see each other!
I'll bet you a beer in Barcelona. And the very same worry crossed my mind
Sounds like I could only loose with that bet - either I have to buy you a beer or we're not going  "Gamble responsibly" :victory:
Oh surely I'd be buying the beer. I think we'll be largely fine - shortages expected end of May (so holiday season is in peril, but not the community meeting).
Hi everyone!
Two important updates as we head into the final days of April:
1. Final Registration Deadline: April 30th :time_ticking: This is the absolute last call for late registrations! If you or your colleagues haven't signed up yet, please do so by Thursday to ensure we have you in the system for the BSC and WTC venues. :point_right: Register here: https://dcm2026.com/registration/
2. Featured Satellite Meetings :rocket: We have two fantastic proposals that dive deep into specialized topics. I’ve attached the full PDFs for you to check out:
"Can the Physical World Make AI more Trustworthy?" by Ben Lewis (Focus on Space, Time, and Metadata).
"From Data to Publication and Back" by Łukasz Opioła (Focus on connecting active research data workflows with repo-publication).
Action needed: If you are interested in participating in either of these, please contact the organizers directly (emails are in the PDFs) by May 3rd. We need to finalize the in-person access credentials for the BSC by May 5th, so please don't delay!

I was assuming to use the metro for nearly anything indeed, but happy to be corrected. Additional question - was there already a Whatsapp group or something messenger-like or do we stick with Zulip?
@Thomas van Erven if you want to set up a WhatsApp group, I'd join!
Oliver Bertuch said:
I'm happy to create a Zulip private channel for the conference Felipe Gómez-Cortés if that helps.
@Oliver Bertuch if you set up a private Zulip channel, I'd join that too!

Any tips on public transportation? Should I buy this Hola Barcelona Travel Card I'm reading about? https://www.holabarcelona.com/tickets/hola-bcn-barcelona-travel-card
Yeah @Philip Durbin 🚀 I'm planning to get a 1 day travel card today and a 5-day card tomorrow so it lasts through Saturday
Cool, I just bought a 5 day at the airport, at the tourism desk near the exit. They said it activates the first time you use it.
This place is on the list: Norai Raval · Maritim Museum Restaurant. What do people think? https://maps.app.goo.gl/4vrpVz1HK2sPDaLo9 Late lunch in an hour or two?
"When you use it" - how do you do that?
I bought one but too but I don't see an option to remedy the voucher in the app...?
There's an app? Not sure. I guess I would suggest asking at the tourism desk. They were very nice.
Hello there!
I am writing a quick guide to move in the city.
Thanks @Felipe Gómez-Cortés ! This is super valuable as I'm right in the middle of La Rambla

We've been coordinating in WhatsApp (see invite link) and we're planning on meeting at the restaurant above in 20 minutes! 16:15! Some are coming late so don't worry.

Hey I know these people!
I'll be in town approx 21:30-22:00. I would be up for a very quick bite & drink, before I get back to slides and exercise crafting.
@Oliver Bertuch sure! Just say where!
Wouldn't it make sense to do this the other way? Y'all tell me where you're hanging out? Or did you split up already?

Dear Community,
I am sharing with you a quick mobility guide for Barcelona.
See you at DCM2026!!!

All these jetlagged people are deciding if they want to walk around or not.
Next stop is Granja Dulcinea, also on the list: https://maps.app.goo.gl/558UfykPQjPcd2wD7

Yes please!
I have created this one, but couldn't set as private channel. #community > Dataverse2026 (Internal)

Right, that's a topic, not a channel. Let me help.
There's a new channel at #dcm2026 that @Oliver Bertuch created that we can experiment with! Please feel free to join!
Within the #dcm2026 channel, we can have as many topics as we want. I just created #dcm2026 > Dataverse Cup for example. :soccer:

Perfect, thanks!
Hi all, I'm going to be 5-10 minutes late to the start of the guided tour, please wait if possible
We found a bar next what we think is the correct futbol pitch : :beers:

Warming up? ;). (For soccer)
Ha, I guess? :stuck_out_tongue_wink:
Does anyone have a direct contact to guided tour coordinators? We are at the spot waiting for the guide, but it's quite late already
Ok nvm, just found out its cancelles. How about the match then? Are you playing?
I saw some pics! They played! Meanwhile:

In previous years we had a spreadsheet to help people find each other. I just created one for this year:
DCM2026 people: how to find each other! (when arriving, where staying).
Please feel free to add yourself!
I just sorted this spreadsheet by departure date so it's easy to tell when people are leaving!

Hi all, now that the data has settled and a well-deserved weekend of hibernation...
Thanks everyone for your participation and making DCM 2026 such an incredible event! :star_struck:
It was fantastic hosting you all in Barcelona. Safe travels to those still on the move, and see you next year for DCM 2027 in Leuven, Belgium!! :flag_belgium:

Thanks for having us! All your hard work is much appreciated!

Quick question - do we have the slides somewhere from all participants? :D
Not yet. AFAIK they will in time be added to OSF as publications. Your best bet for now: ask the presenter directly to share them with you.
Here's a crazy idea. What if people who gave talks link to their slides here?
Here are my Community Updates slides: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1qMq21xtHtfGmnJfxQDjLZMc5Ufr4Hfx27IGi2RG4nDI/edit?usp=sharing
Good Bye Barcelona! Flying out in 3h. :take_off: Looks like the last non-local participant is going home
