This new date was a surprise ; ( as the month of June was pre-scheduled. But it was good that you are announcing it in advance, in any case it creates some entropy to be able to be present - let's do our best to participate from Portugal.
Yes! I hope you can participate!
Will it be both in person and online, or only in person like in Braga? We were namely thinking of having a sustainability WG meeting there, but if it's only in person, then that's probably not realistic to expect from all members of the WG.
Not sure. I think we'd need to reach out to the organizing committee at https://sites.harvard.edu/dcm2024/
I'll do that then :+1: Though, I can only find the support@dataverse.harvard.edu address.
Hmm, very good point. No other contact information listed.
I sent a short mail anyway, who knows, maybe they know who to ask.
Yeah. And the survey above is still open for two days.
It's more about topics though. Maybe you could put something under "other".
We just earlier today filled that in. So, I can redo it and bump up the count of our choices, but I guess that's not the intention  . I'll first wait to see if I get a response on the email.
Your email generated this ticket: https://help.hmdc.harvard.edu/Ticket/Display.html?id=351864
I'll try to remember to check back to see the response.
Hmm, no response yet.

@Dieuwertje Bloemen I just nudged the person who was assigned your #351864: Dataverse Community Meeting 2024: hybrid or not? ticket and you should have gotten a reply.
Yep, just saw the answer come in as being undecided for now:
"Hi Dieuwertje,
We are currently organizing the upcoming Community Meeting. Hybrid/streaming options have not been finalized as of this moment. Please follow the Community Meeting website (https://sites.harvard.edu/dcm2024/) as more info will be announced. Also
Best,
Dwayne"
better than "no", I guess :grinning:
Hi there, any update on this? Hybrid options considered?
Sonia and Ceilyn just got back from a visit to CIMMYT. At standup today Ceilyn said there is nice audio visual equipment.

I'm getting all my travel approved!!! I'll be there! Who else from IQSS is coming
Who else from Dataverse Community is coming?
Last I heard 8 people (including me) from IQSS are going.
I'm glad to hear you'll be there, Sherry!
No funds, no way to go... :unamused:
Question about the 10th Anniversary Dinner - I assume all IQSS will be there? Anyone know what special things will be going on?
I'm planning on going to the dinner but I don't have any details, sorry.
More details to come, I'm told. :grinning:
I'll be at the community meeting! So excited to meet you all in person!
@Sherry Lake at https://sites.harvard.edu/dcm2024/ there are some more details now:
"Get Ready to Celebrate 10 Years of the Dataverse Community!
Join us in Mexico for an unforgettable celebration of a decade of achievements, collaboration, and innovation within the community. Experience Mexican culture with mariachi music and delicious food. Enjoy exciting activities like raffles, contests, and surprises. See you there!"
I was just thinking... it's nice that Zulip is already going this year. We can talk in this thread before, during, and after the community meeting.
We need to get more Dataverse-folk on Zulip.
Well, maybe the community meeting is a good opportunity.
Pump up the fun. Draw them in. :grinning:
I started a thread for that: #community > Getting more people on Zulip :grinning:

"Popocatepetl volcano spews steam and ash that could reach Mexico City" ^^
This just in, a visitor guide:
Being a somehow late addition to our team, I have a strong interest in Dataverse (setup, management & support) and NIST 800-171 compliance. NIST 800-53 compliance would be a great, dream-like bonus. I am eager to meet colleagues with same interest in Texcoco!
@Steve Baroti cool. Welcome! See you there! Please feel free to start a new thread (topic) here in Zulip about NIST compliance.
According to https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/atmosphere/vaac/volcanoes/POPOCATEPETL.html (thanks, Jim Myers for finding this!), the wind is blowing the ash away from Texcoco:
kind of late question .. does anyone know if we need to convert money for mexico? (ie: to pay drivers, etc .. ) and where to do it? (i'm clueless)
Oh, I was planning on finding an ATM at the airport. I'm not sure how much cash we'll need.
@Don Sizemore already has pesos. I'll bum a couple off him. :grinning:
at the airport in mexico? if you do that, does it give you mexican dollars?
It better. Well, pesos.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_peso
i was going to say pesos, but wasn't sure if that was for just coins or all money :-)
@Deirdre Kirmis I asked my very-well-traveled supervisor this question, and he said "I usually just find an ATM once I get to the foreign airport." I myself converted $400US to $6400MXN at my local credit union, and will pay cash when credit isn't an option.
@Deirdre Kirmis I also snagged a "universal" power adapter in a liquidation store for $6, claims to work across 170 countries, though I understand the only significant difference between US and MEX power outlets is their lack of polarized sockets.
oh wow i didn't even think about the power thing! glad you mentioned that too .. i will look for an adapter tomorrow (and likely will go exchange money beforehand too) .. thanks!
@Don Sizemore did you get something like this?
but cheaper
I bet @Juan Pablo Tosca Villanueva can tell us if we need a special power adapter or not. I didn't think so but now I'm not sure.
was talking to a coworker who just got back from mexico and she says you don't need one .. i ordered one and will bring just to be safe (if not just for multiple USB ports for charging)
Power outlets are the same :grinning:
My Apple devices don't use polarized plugs, and they're what I care about. I can do without my electric razor =)
The only thing I can think is different is we use metric system
So if you are driving probably the car will show kmph speed
I don't think there's an emoji that can properly convey my feelings about the US not using the metric system.

@Juan Pablo Tosca Villanueva @Philip Durbin they are not considered Sonoran hot dogs here, according to the gentleman who served me. if you're ever in Tucson, get a Sonoran hot dog which will be wrapped in bacon and include jalapeΓ±o in the salsa.
You guys could have Tamales why :hotdog: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
No tamales on offer today. :sob:
@Juan Pablo Tosca Villanueva everything the Comedor has offered has been wonderful. fresh-squeezed orange juice, salsas that are actually hot, cactus in the eggs
I am glad you guys are having a good time

for those who were startled by the bird calls between the Comedor and the conference building, my boss says they are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great-tailed_grackle
I wonder if that's the screechy one
I told him that the cry was somewhere between a parrot and a hawk, and he said, "oh, grackle."
